WAVERLEY councillors will next week be recommended to give the green light to the Bourne Woods film site, as long as permission is tied to the Forestry Commission and income from filming is used for the public forest estate.

Waverley's western area planning committee will on Wednesday reconsider the application for mixed forestry and film site use on the land, which has already been used since 1999 as the set for epics such as Gladiator, Robin Hood and War Horse.

The committee deferred a decision on September 4, at a meeting at which councillors were critical of the planning officers' report, suggesting many issues had not been addressed and crucial conditions to any consent had been omitted.
