A NEW campaign launched by Love Haslemere Hate Waste has won film star support.

Award-winning actor Hugh Bonneville has donated a stunning Whitley wool jacket to Love Style Hate Waste.

The campaign encourages everyone to do their bit to reduce the estimated £140m worth of clothing that goes into landfill each year.

Love Style Hate Waste will culminate in a pre-loved clothes swap event and catwalk show at Woolmer Hill School on Saturday, March 28, from 6.30pm.

The sustainable style event will showcase donated clothing and accessories – including items from the town’s Plum Dress Agency – which can be bought on the night to raise funds for a community repair cafe.

Personal stylists, hairstylists and make-up artists will offer style advice and a token system will be in place to swap and buy.

Mr Bonneville has led the way and more donations of high quality pre-loved clothing are sought.

Items can be dropped off at Oliver’s Café in Charter Walk.

One catwalk entry ticket will be handed out in exchange for every donation.

The new campaign is launching in partnership with Instagram channel Spinning Old into Gold, created by Sarah Secker-Barker.

Love Haslemere Hate Waste founder Victoria Page said: “The average life of an item of clothing is around two years. If we can extend that by just nine months, we can significantly reduce its environmental impact.”
