THE University for the Creative Arts’ (UCA) Farnham Film School have enjoyed a successful evening at the Royal Television Society’s (RTS) Southern Awards, collecting two trophies from six nominations.
Leah Revivo and Joe Mills, who both graduated in 2015, won in the Best Student Entertainment award for their film ‘Valentines Park’, while current third-year student Urmas Salu picked up the Best Student Open for his film ‘Insert Film Title Here, I Guess’.
Leah, 22, said: “It feels amazing to win. Whenever I make a film there is always a nagging voice of doubt telling me that it’s neither funny nor entertaining – the small urge to stop immediately and go hide.
“So to have the RTS Southern Awards substantiate that they enjoyed the film really is invaluable. It’s also a really good looking award.”
‘Valentines Park’ is a real interview re-enacted by actors in front of a green screen. The story follows the story of a Catholic priest whose vows are tested by his growing feelings for a woman.
Leah has now moved on to work on her next film ‘Get Up Rosie’, a collaborative film with fellow UCA alumni which mixes live action and animation.
In the Best Open Student category, third year student Urmas Salu, from Estonia, won for his film Insert ‘Film Title Here, I Guess’, a project which blends live footage with lego animation.
UCA’s final nomination came in the Animation category, where BA (Hons) animation student Dann Parry received a nod for his film ‘Love & Papercuts’.
