FAMILIES visiting Haslemere Fire Station’s coffee and cake open day last Friday could also get some training in CPR and paediatric first aid.
Special guest at the charity event to raise money for The Foundation Centre and The Fire-Fighter Charity, was Stef Morley, Surrey fire and rescue’s lead instructor for trauma and first aid.
“For the last 18 months, Surrey fire crews have attended emergency callouts if we are the closest resource, for cardiac problems, difficulty with breathing, or life-threatening symptoms,” he said. “If we can get there first, we can get to work straight away to keep people alive before the ambulance arrives.
“Lives have been saved due to us getting there swiftly. We often attend incidents with children and this event is to help parents and children learn what they can do to help straight away.
“More than 40 visitors came to find out more about what Haslemere firefighters do and they were able to learn some first aid as well as look around the station and enjoy some home-made cake.”
