FEARS over plans to axe full-time firefighters in Haslemere have been played down, after Surrey County Council was told to identify potential "efficiencies" in the county fire and rescue service.

Rumours of the cutbacks emerged late last week after the county council's Safer and Stronger Communities Committee held a meeting to discuss money-saving proposals.
