THE people of Whitehill and Bordon marked Guy Fawkes Night with a funfair and fireworks at Country Market.

It was the first time that the Whitehill and Bordon Town Partnership had organised the town’s annual display.

Traditionally, the Bordon fireworks event has been put on by the Army.

However, with the closure of the Bordon Garrison, this year the Partnership took the reins and despite some teething issues managed to put on a memorable show on November 4.

“The event itself was a success, we had two displays,” Curtis Bone, from the Town Partnership, said.

“There was a child friendly display earlier in the evening and a full display later on.

“Unfortunately, numbers were lower than we hoped, mainly due to weather and an accident on A325 which closed the road in Whitehill blocking our buses.

“I would like to give my thanks to the Country Market, who give the site for free; LMC (Kingsley)?for the loan of a tail-lift truck to move equipment, and Headley Parish Council for paying for the bus for its residents, plus The Breeze radio for attending event.”

Next up in Whitehill and Bordon Town Partnership’s busy calendar is the Christmas fair on December 5.

And 2016 will bring yet more local fixtures, including the Queen’s Birthday Picnic on June 12; the Whitehill and Bordon Festival, incorporating the Hampshire 999 event, on June 25; the popular Activity Day on August 13, and then back with the fireworks on November 2.
