HASLEMERE'S CCTV Partnership Enterprise Group has met for the first time to discuss plans for a surveillance system in the town.
At the meeting president of the Chamber of Trade and Commerce Melanie O'Dell was elected group chairman.
The main purposes of the local groups will be to communicate with the public, decide on locations for the camera, organise the monitoring of systems and establish funds for the acquisition and maintenance of the equipment.
At last week's meeting it was agreed that Jacquie Keen, a borough and town councillor and chairman of the Haslemere PCPG committee, and town mayor Michael Barnes, should represent the local group on the main Waverley CCTV committee. Other members of the local committee are Haslemere Society chairman Robert Serman, borough and town councillor James Mackie, and John Markey of Beacon Hill Garage.
A public presentation will be held by the group on Thursday, October 4, where members of the group and the police will be available to discuss the CCTV equipment. A working CCTV system will also be on show.
The presentation has been incorporated into Haslemere Chamber of Trade's "Event a Day" scheme and will be held at Haslemere Museum from 2 to 7 pm.
