There will be no trains running between Guildford and Petersfield for five consecutive days between Monday, July 24 and Friday, July 28.

Signalling between these two stations is controlled by signal boxes in Farncombe, Haslemere and Petersfield, using equipment dating back to the 1970s. As it nears 50 years of service, it is becoming less reliable and more difficult to maintain.

The closure will allow for new cable to be laid in preparation for the signalling move to the state-of-the-art system in Basingstoke.

Network Rail hopes to have completed the project by late 2024, with customers set to enjoy faster journeys and fewer delays moving forward.
