THIS June there’s an exciting and intriguing new event for everyone to enjoy – the Farnham Flash Festival – offering amazing performances every day.
Featuring soloists, choirs, theatre, instrumentalists, musical theatre, bands, opera, dance and the spoken word, it’s intended there will be much that will appeal to everyone, young or old, resident or visitor.
Demonstrating the wealth and diversity of performing arts that Farnham has to offer, people can experience the many unexpected delights as they walk through the town or visit one of the various performance venues. Many of these events are entirely free as well.
One of the events on the opening day - Thursday, June 1 - is specially aimed at children in the half-term holiday.
From midday in Gostrey Meadow, there’ll be a circus workshop where children can learn to be a juggler or stiltwalker; and there’ll be magic! Plus, Morris dancers will teach children their art. And the entertainment includes music from Matthew Lloyd Mostyn as well.
At the other end of the spectrum, on the June 28 is an Introduction to Opera featuring Rhiannon Llewellyn, plus the music director, Mark Austin of Opera South. Throughout June is a whole range of different performances for all to enjoy.
There’s so much packed into this festival - with over 75 events during the month - you can find out more from the Farnham Flash Festival brochure, so pick up a copy from one of the usual outlets in the town, including the town council office in South Street, The Maltings, Farnham Museum, the library as well as many pubs and cafes.
Shows could happen at any time of day, and in a variety of locations – right across the town - in the Lion & Lamb Yard, at the Farnham Rugby Club, in churches, at The Maltings, at The Bush Hotel and, perhaps – in a street near you.
This Flash Festival has the support and sponsorship from Farnham Town Council and The Farnham Institute, and is co-ordinated by Performers Together CIC, whose patrons are Simon Russell Beale, CBE and David Whelton OBE, former MD Philharmonia Orchestra.
