PLANS to build a block of five flats after demolishing a house near the centre of Haslemere are continuing to create a storm of protest from residents. The scheme to build flats on the corner of Hill Road and Park Road has already caused residents living in both roads to express grave concerns over the size of the proposed building and possible increases in traffic. Eighteen letters of objection have been submitted to Waverley Borough Council, although the closing date for residents to put forward their comments on the detailed plans for the building passed yesterday (Thursday). If the detailed proposals are approved, the house, known as Glengariff, will be torn down to make way for the five flats, three with two bedrooms and two with three bedrooms. Outline permission for the scheme has already been granted. James Rapp, of Park Road, said: "I have not heard anyone in the local area say they are happy with these plans. Everyone is feeling uneasy and not liking the size and shape of the building for the corner plot of a residential area. "We appreciate planning approval has been given for the five flats, but we do not believe this building to be appropriate. There are five flats and some of them are not small." Mr Rapp added: "We do not know what the view of planning staff is but we do not feel enough has been done". l Continued on Page 3.
