ALTON’S Public Gardens will host the town’s inaugural FlavourFest on Sunday.

Taking place from 11am-5pm, the festival will be serving up flavours from around the world, with 50 artisan food and drink stalls, talks from leading producers, a gin garden from Winchester Distillery, guided tasting sessions with The Whiskey Affair, live music and dance on the bandstand, and fun children’s activities.

From Spanish paella, Hampshire hog roast, marshmallows and macarons to home-made cakes, charcuterie, Somerset cider and Hampshire ale, there are treats to suit all tastes, all lovingly created or sought out by leading producers from across the South East.

Jenny Atherton, from Fuse Projects, who is co-ordinating the event with a team of volunteers, said: “It’s fantastic to be bringing FlavourFest to our home town, which is free for people to attend. The festival is a huge celebration of food and drink and gives local producers the chance to come together and share their fantastic food creations with our visitors.”

The event has been sponsored to the tune of £750 by Alton Town Council, toward the cost of hiring a marquee in which to host talks, and by Specsavers Alton. The total cost of the event is expected to be in the region of £3,300.

Entry to the festival is free, with guided whiskey-tasting sessions costing £10 per ticket, bookable in advance. For more details, visit facebook.com/altonflavourfest.
