DESPITE the cold weather, there was glorious sunshine on Saturday for the annual Elstead Village Pancake Race.

Nearly 50 children and adults raced and tossed their pancakes along Stacey’s Farm Road to the village hall.

The event, taking place a week later than usual to avoid half-term, was sponsored again by Chris Spicer from Elstead Building Company.

The winners will have their names engraved on the Woolpack Shield which celebrates the winners over the last 22 years.

More than 100 people continued the fun in the village hall where savoury and sweet pancakes were on sale.

Local people donated raffle prizes and volunteers from the parents of St James Primary School and Elstead residents made and donated about 200 pancakes for this truly village event.

The Elstead Village Pancake Race is enjoyed by young and old each year. This year more than £300 was raised towards the upkeep of Elstead Village Hall and the youth centre.

The organisers wish to thank everyone who gave their time to organise this popular event and the many people who helped on the day.
