ALTON'S 13th annual pancake race has been dubbed the biggest and best yet.

Coinciding with the school half-term holidays, Tuesday's event attracted a bumper entry, with a field of 35 split – due to the young turnout – into under-10s and over-10s.

And many competitors dressed for the occasion, to be cheered on along the route by a lively and vociferous crowd.
