HASLEMERE firemen came to the rescue of a stranded motorist whose car engine cut out when he tried to get through flood water under the town's railway bridge, on Tuesday.

Torrential rain during lunchtime washed down leaves which blocked drains. The rescue services pushed the car free and were able to clear the drains shortly afterwards.
