A YOUNG Alton woman took to the skies over the Scottish city of Dundee on a flying scholarship funded by the Royal Air Force Association.
Emily Hillan, 17, who is currently studying at Farnborough Sixth Form College, was awarded the scholarship through the Air Training Corps. It included 12 hours of flying time in an Aquila training aircraft, as well as intensive ground training.
This year’s scholarship recipients, 186 in total, were drawn from more than 44,000 cadets throughout the UK.
Emily has been a member of the 613 (Alton) Squadron for five years, and for the past two years has been the recipient of The Issachar Shield, an award for the best non-commission officer.
