IS it a bird, is it a plane? No, it’s a flying shepherd’s hut.
This striking image was taken when a 50-tonne crane had to lift Greg Edwards’ shepherd’s hut over the top of his house as part of a house move.
The hut flew 50 feet in the air during its dramatic exit.
It took Greg two years to build the shepherd’s hut - in 2014, he begun the drawings and designs, in 2015 he started to build it and then in 2016 it was fitted and finally complete. He described it as a “labour of love”.
Greg decided to take on the build after staying in one himself on a Valentine’s ‘glamping’ weekend.
The future of this hut could lie in the Lake District, where Greg plans to buy a piece of land.
Historically, these huts were used by shepherd’s during sheep raising and lambing between the 15th century and into the 20th century.
They were designed as practical accommodation for shepherds - huts would be a bedroom, kitchen, sitting room and storage room combined, with windows on each side allowing visibility of the flock.
But, the use of shepherd’s huts dwindled with the introduction of mechanised farm machinery.
