A TEAM from a beauty company rolled up their sleeves and went to work at Bordon’s Foodbank at the Forest Centre.
First they cleared and then they deep cleaned the store rooms.
Six volunteers from Laleham Health and Beauty, a large employer in Alton and based at Sycamore Park, took on quite a big job because there were many tins, cereal packets and paper goods to move. They then sorted out the food items by the date of distribution.
The firm took on the job as part of a year-long programme of volunteering in the community.
Heather Ford, co-ordinator at the Bordon Food-bank, said: “We have really welcomed the volunteers from Laleham Health and Beauty as we do not have enough time to clean the walls, carpets and shelving ourselves.
“Their hard work will ensure the Foodbank store is kept clean and tidy to enable us to serve local people who require our help in times of distress and need.
“Many people we provide food to have fallen on hard times and may only need a food parcel to see them through a difficult time of their life. I would like to thank Laleham Health and Beauty and Community First for organising the volunteering session.”
Don Johnson, operations director, told the Herald: “Giving our staff time off from work to volunteer in the community is an essential part of Laleham’s ethos, fitting nicely with our corporate social responsibility and wellbeing strategy.
“Our staff talk very highly of the volunteering programme, and enjoy meeting people from different teams and getting a real of sense of the issues in the community.
“We have really enjoyed helping the Bordon Foodbank and hope our small contribution will go some way to supporting local disadvantaged people.”
The Foodbank regularly distributes food parcels to people in the Whitehill and Bordon area, providing a service to those in the community who need a short-term helping hand.
