THE secretary of the youth section of Badshot Lea Football Club has hit out at critics of the club's proposals to build new sporting facilities at Sandy Hill. "We are not trying to build the next Emirates stadium," declared Nicky Staszkiewicz, in response to observations made by Farnham Town Council and the news that petitions against the scheme are doing the rounds. The council had given a mixed response to the scheme for pitches, a clubhouse and possibly further facilities such as tennis courts. Councillors congratulated the club on the concept, but registered doubts about the scale of what is proposed. "I find my blood boiling when people are so negative about trying to help youngsters keep out of trouble, off the street, healthy and part of a club that they can be proud of," said an angry Mr Staszkiewicz. He highlighted the achievements of the club, which celebrates 100 years of football next year, including the highest accreditation from the FA with Community Club status. To progress and to provide football for all, from six year olds to seniors, the club must have a closed site with floodlights. "Our intention is to provide a facility to play under lights with training facilities and a small number of mini-pitches. Tennis courts, bowling greens and the like may come later if required, but the site at Sandy Hill is not used now to its full potential. The site will do nothing but benefit Sandy Hill and I hope that all residents will come and be part of it." As well as being used by the football club, the clubhouse will be available for other activities from bingo to line dancing, stressed Mr Staszkiewicz. "I ask the people of Sandy Hill and the surrounding areas to support us and not be put off by the fears and doubts that are being bandied about, "Do not hesistate to contact any member of the club if you want to discuss these plans further.
