THE future of Alton Town Football Club hangs in the balance.

Football club chairman Jim McKell told the club on Monday that the landlord Molson Coors had given instruction to vacate the Coors Sports Ground in Anstey Road – the club's home for almost 30 years – at the end of the season.

While it comes as no great surprise, since Coors has been seeking to dispose of the ground for the past six years for redevelopment, the realisation that Alton Town could be homeless has caused shockwaves around the town.
