HOOK Football Club secretary Tony Sellwood has died.
Mr Sellwood had been a part of the club since 1952, when he played his first game for the club at the age of 14, and he still made it to every game up until last season.
He was elected onto the club committee three years later and he continued playing for the club as the no-nonsense centre forward he had become, picking up the nickname ‘The Killer’.
After doing his National Service in the Coldstream Guards, he returned to the club where he carried on playing until age caught up with him, when he then took over the role as linesman.
Appointed chairman in 1970, Mr Sellwood retired only two years ago, up to which point he would still look after the pitches at King George V Playing Fields.
His biggest honours in football came in the shape of the North Hants FA Services to Football Award he received in 1991 and then the Football Association medal in 2002, awarded to those for 50 years’ service to the game.
He will be greatly missed by Hook Football Club and the football family in the area.
