EDGEBOROUGH library is at the heart of the school and even more so during March when the pupils and staff celebrated World Book Day.

Heather Holder, head of the library, explained: “There is increased emphasis on reading for pleasure and every year we aspire to foster more literate, knowledgeable young people by planning a series of literary events, inviting authors and promoting bookish fun.”

This year pupils at Edgeborough celebrated 30 years of Where’s Wally with a competition to find the hidden Wally in different offices, classrooms and specialist departments around the school.

The school also hosted its annual book fair run by Farnham Waterstones. Pupils and staff dressed up as interesting and intriguing book characters such as Ottoline, Mr Munro, Rupert Bear, Private Peaceful, Harry Potter and the Demon Dentist, to mention a few.

G P Taylor the author of several best-selling novels, including Shadowmancer and the Mariah Mundi trilogy, spoke to the older pupils, who were intrigued by his thrilling ghostly stories and fascinating tales of the unexpected, many based near to Whitby, the author’s home territory.

Finally, to end off the literary extravaganza, pupils and staff were delighted to host Farnham resident and local author, Ally Sherrick, who addressed children in years four to six and chatted to them about her life, as well as her hobbies and interests which led to the publication of her first book, Black Powder, a rip-roaring, life-and-death quest, packed with history and adventure.

Headmaster Chris Davies added: “With so many electronic gadgets currently available to attract the attention of children of all ages, it is wonderful to have a library at the heart of the school that helps to bring a life-long love of a good books to all our pupils.”
