THE victim of an horrific town centre attack claims four friends were ambushed by a gang of up to 30 teenagers who launched an unprovoked punching, kicking and stamping assault which lasted 15 minutes.
The 22-year-old victim, who wishes not to be named, was one of four people - three of whom are in their 20s, one in his 30s - attacked in Gostrey Meadow at about 11-30 pm on Saturday night. The victim has criticised investigations by local police, whose records of the incident question the victim's version of events.
The victim said the four friends were heading towards the war memorial when they were confronted on either side by members of a gang running towards them.
It is claimed the gang punched, kicked and stamped on their victims, leaving one unconscious and missing three teeth and another with a broken nose and unable to see properly after being stabbed in the eye with a stick.
"There were at least 20 of them, probably closer to 30, and they were a mixture of ages between 16 and 20. They came from both directions, so it felt like an ambush," said the victim, who lives in Farnham.
"We experienced around 15 minutes of solid beating. I remember looking up at one point to see a girl and a boy hitting me, and the girl was stamping on my head and throat. When it had all broken up, we were all a complete mess.
"I've got a black eye and bruising and swelling all over my head and throat. One of the guys managed to get away and hid in a bush, and he only had a black eye and scratches all over his body.
"The other two were not so lucky though. One of them was knocked unconscious and had three of his front teeth kicked out. He also got black eyes, bruising all over his back and two bad gashes in his head that needed a number of stitches.
"The other one is also bruised all over, has a broken nose, and was stabbed in the eye with a stick."
The four victims were taken to Frimley Park Hospital, where police took a brief account of the incident.
"I just want something to be done, but the police haven't even come out to talk to us," said the victim. "I feel really let down by the law."
But a Surrey police spokesman said: "I can't see why they don't think we're taking this seriously. We've assigned a CID officer to the case and reclassified the attack as grievous bodily harm."
The spokesman added that reports of the incident only mentioned 10 assailants.
"What seems to have happened is that a man and his girlfriend were attacked and their friends tried to fend off the attackers."
