FOUR of Waverley’s Green Flag award-winning parks are in with a chance of being crowned a national People’s Choice winner.
Farnham Park, Frensham Great Pond and Common, Broadwater Park in Farncombe and The Phillips Memorial Park in Godalming could win the accolade as part of the 20th year of the awards.
They will be up against all other Green Flag award-winning parks and green spaces across the country in a public vote.
But this year, to mark the landmark anniversary, there won’t be one overall winner, there will be a top 10.
Kevin Deanus, portfolio holder for community services at Waverley Borough Council, said: “We are so lucky to have such beautiful green spaces in our borough and it really would be fantastic to give them the recognition they deserve by the people who use them.
“The work to keep these parks looking so amazing is partly done by volunteers, who work all year round to keep them in top condition.
“This public vote will be a great opportunity to show the rest of the UK how amazing our borough’s parks are, so if you love visiting any of these four make sure you vote for your favourite.”
Voting is now open and will close at noon on Friday, September 30. The 10 most popular parks and green spaces in the UK will be announced in October.
To vote, visit greenflagaward.org, select your country or region on the interactive map, find your favourite park or green space, click on more details, and click the ‘vote for this site’ button.
