ATTEMPTS were made by two men to spend forged £20 notes in five separate shops in Four Marks last Thursday afternoon.
The incidents all took place within 15 minutes of each other, and in each case, the men attempted to purchase low-value goods. One of the shops accepted the notes, but the others declined them.
The first man, who took part in one of the incidents, is described as a white European, aged between 30 and 40, with dark brown hair, wearing jeans and a red jumper.
The second man, who was responsible for the other four attempts, is described as a white European, wearing black trousers and a cream-coloured zip-up fleece, which was only zipped up halfway.
Both men are said to have very broad Irish accents, and were seen to be travelling in a black vehicle, possibly a Ford Escort, bearing the partial registration UUV.
Three more incidents also took place later that day at shops in Alresford, where all three targeted shops accepted the fake currency.
