CHRISTMAS shoppers can park for free in Farnham town centre car parks on Saturday, December 3.

All Waverley Borough Council-run car parks, including Central, Waggon Yard and The Hart, will be free to park in from 10am until 6.30pm, encouraging everyone to do their Christmas shopping in the town.

The move is part of Small Business Saturday; a national initiative that celebrates small businesses and their successes, as well as encouraging people to shop locally.

Richie Ellmer, president of the Farnham Chamber of Commerce, said: “I’m delighted that Small Business Saturday is timed with Waverley supporting its communities, both for consumers and businesses, by offering free parking in all Waverley car parks from 10am on Saturday, December 3.

“Farnham has so much to offer with its unique and boutique shops, together with fabulous places to stop and have a coffee or lunch (or even a tipple to keep out the winter chill, if you so desire) and I am delighted with this offer of giving easy access to all council car parks free of charge.

“This brings support to our local businesses and offers a chance to wander around the beautiful historic town of Farnham whilst getting the Christmas shopping under way.”

Andrew Bolton, Waverley’s portfolio holder for economic development, added: “This exciting move by Waverley means residents will be able to go on a Christmas shopping spree in the borough, without having to worry about parking charges and rushing back to their cars.

“It also means they will have a little bit more change to spend on a stocking filler, mince pie or a warming hot chocolate while they’re shopping.

“We hope this will encourage shoppers to support their local economy and explore the borough’s high streets and fantastic shops for longer, taking advantage of some of the festive deals available.”
