TO encourage young adults to register, vote and participate in the democratic process, all UK ‘young voters’ currently aged 18 to 24 can book a free place on a tour of the Houses of Parliament.
Visitors will discover the House of Commons, House of Lords and Westminster Hall, and see inside the debating chambers and voting lobbies of both Houses.
At the conclusion of the tour, visitors will be invited to make use of Parliament’s pop-up electoral registration centre in Westminster Hall, where parliamentary staff will be on hand to provide assistance with the registration process.
David Natzler, clerk of the House of Commons said: “We are delighted to welcome 18 to 24 year olds on free tours of Parliament in the lead up to the General Election. We hope that young people from all over the UK will take this opportunity to visit Parliament and play their part in the democratic process as a result.”
To ensure as many young voters as possible take the opportunity to visit Parliament, eight additional tour dates have been added in May. A ticket is still required and proof of age will be requested on entry.
Tours are available from Wednesday to Saturday between May 25 and June 3.
The Houses of Parliament is also taking part in the first ever London History Day on Wednesday, May 31, with a range of tours and events.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.parliament.uk/visit, by calling 020 7219 4114, or in person from the ticket office at the front of Portcullis House on Victoria Embankment.
