ANYONE in Whitehill and Bordon who smelled gas in the air on Tuesday is being told not to worry.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service issued a reassurance this week that the smell was safe and accounted for.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service's control room reported a "steady stream of calls" from concerned residents, on Tuesday, from all over Hampshire.

The unpleasant odour was understood to emanate from a leak in a factory in Rouen in northern France.

The Health Protection Agency has stressed the gas is non-toxic and presents no threat to the public.
