SNOW, cold, rain, wind, Beast from the East. Not ideal conditions to provide impressive entries for the Frensham and Dockenfield Horticultural Society’s spring show – yet once again the keen band of gardeners somehow managed to pull out the stops for a Frensham Marindin Hall full of colour.

This year’s show took place earlier than usual, due to the early date of Easter, and continued a promising trend of new entrants – with more entries especially seen for ancillary subjects to the horticultural, such as home industries (broadly described as cooking, sewing, knitting and drawing) and photography.

The best entry for one of the hotly contested cooking classes was a junior, Kari Kleiven, while the photography judge Lizzie Espinosa was pleased to see the high number and quality of entries.

There was also a higher number of entries to the flower arranging classes. Once seen maybe as a moribund category attracting formalised old school arrangements, the society and judge, Jenny Barralet, are pleased to see many entries of new free-form arrangements.

Liberty Lloyd was supreme in the junior flower arranging class.

As ever, the Marindin Hall was a local magnet, as the ‘hort and prod’  shows are known for their excellent homemade cakes, teas and coffees on a Saturday afternoon: a good time was had by all.
