POLICE have issued a fresh appeal for information following a sex offence in Godalming last summer.

A 12-year-old schoolgirl reported that she was walking along Hawthorn Road around 4pm on July 6 when she was approached by a man who touched her before walking off.

It is now alleged the man sexually assaulted her and officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that could help the investigation.

The man is described as white, around 6ft tall, of medium build and aged between 40 and 50.

He had short, straight black hair and “smelt a bit smoky”. He was wearing dark blue jeans, a lighter blue short-sleeved top and old black boots.

Detective Constable Nell Rodriguez said: “This is a serious offence and we’re doing all we can to find this man to establish what has happened.

“I appreciate a considerable period of time has passed but I would urge anyone who remembers seeing something unusual or suspicious around the time of the incident to do the right thing and call in with information.

I would also like to reassure the public we believe this to be an isolated incident and we have had no reports of anything similar in the area.”
