FEARS for the future of Haslemere Community Hospital have been voiced following the loss of 10 beds.

Last week Surrey's Health Scrutiny Committee unanimously passed a recommendation to consolidate its specialist neuro rehabilitation services at Woking Community Hospital, by the end of this year.

Campaigners support the move because it will improve care for patients to be treated at a single site in west Surrey, but they are concerned about the damaging knock-on effect it will have for Haslemere.

They fear that reducing its beds from 24 to 16 could make the hospital unviable and have called on health leaders to increase the total to at least 20 in order to serve vital healthcare needs.
