MOBILE library stops are under threat after Hampshire County Council announced plans to "streamline" the service.

The council is giving members of the public the chance to suggest ways to attract more readers to use the mobile library stops because, at present, it says many are under threat of being cut because they are under used with, on average, just two customers per stop.

Among the 40 villages which could lose parts of the service are Kingsley, Blackmoor and Selborne.

A public consultation is now under way to gauge opinion among residents, mobile library drivers, customers and district and parish councils to see if, by making changes, the stops have potential for increased custom.
