A DOZEN friends from Farnham are preparing to pound the pavements of London as they take part in the 21st MoonWalk London, raising money and awareness in the continued fight against breast cancer.
Starting and finishing at Clapham Common, the ’Farnham Fillies’ will transform into cowboys and cowgirls as they ’saddle up’ with 15,000 other women and men for the 26.2 mile night-time walk organised by breast cancer charity Walk the Walk.
The team have been fitting in long training sessions to prepare themselves for the walk, and have been busy raising money for the cause too.
Team member Catherine Easton said: "We all have friends who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, and we feel passionately about raising awareness and money in their honour. The MoonWalk will be a real challenge for us, but it’s nothing compared to the battle our friends have faced."
Another, Vicky Bailey added: "We met when our children attended St Andrew’s Infants school, and the training walks have been a wonderful way to stay in touch with each other, but walking through London at night is going to be a very different experience."
Fellow Farnham Fillie, Jane Cooper said: "We want to say a big thank you to everyone in Farnham who has donated to our team, especially when we stood with buckets on West Street last Saturday and raised £650."
