INCONTINENCE issues can have a big impact, both physically and emotionally, but many patients remain reluctant to discuss them.

Now, specialists at Frimley Park Hospital are looking to break this taboo with a special awareness day next week.

It will be an opportunity for patients, members of the public and hospital staff to learn more about bladder problems and the treatments available.

Specialist nurses will be on hand to answer questions, offer advice on getting help and discuss individual issues in complete confidence.

Urology nurse specialist Jane Miles said: “When something goes wrong with our ability to be ‘clean and dry’ we lose self-confidence and emotionally feel like a small child again.

“Many people are reluctant to go on long journeys or even leave the house in some cases. And the real shame is that they could be suffering in silence unnecessarily as there are a number of treatment options available.

“We would like to invite anyone who is interested or affected by this problem, or who is caring for others, to attend our awareness day in September.”

The event takes place in the atrium of Frimley Park’s administration block, C Block, on Thursday, September 15, from 9.30am-3.30pm.

There is no need to book a place, just turn up.
