IT was full steam ahead in Northapel on Saturday and Sunday when more than 1,500 showgoers enjoyed a two-day spectacular at School House Farm.

Live demonstrations by historic farmyard giants were the highlight of the Northchapel Working Steam Show, which also featured vintage vehicles, traditional crafts and a fairground. "We were really pleased at how well it went," said organiser Kate Russell, who revived the popular event last year. "The show has doubled in size and had a lot more exhibits and we were very well supported locally.

"We had some really nice displays by Search and Rescue dogs, Grey Goose Archery Team let visitors have a go themselves and we had 60 vintage commercial vehicles and 16 steam engines.

"It's a family-run event. All the marshalls were family or friends.

"My husband Gerald is a haulier and low-loaded all the steam engines and my father Michael is an engineer, who restores steam engines for a living, and he checked to make sure they were all running properly."

Proceeds from the show will go towards St Wilfrid's Hospice and Macmillan and Kate thanked St Wilfrid's trustees who helped on site over the weekend. She said: "We ae looking forward to planning another one now next year."
