THE Farnham Fun Palace, which celebrates all things crafty, saw another booming year with more than 170 visitors and a dozen makers.
The free community-led art, science and craft event was attended by a number of Farnham businesses, which wanted to extend their love and passion for the world of art, on to the community of Farnham.
In the gallery and under the verandas the Farnham Art and Design Education Group hosted a Big Draw event; Larking Arts made an interactive map of local creativity; Pop Up Crafts held a clay modelling workshop; and Amnesty Farnham offered several creative activities around refugees.
There was also a creative table with 3D pens and visitors were offered STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and maths) challenge bags to take home and keep on being creative.
In the main building, Wendy Richardson hosted a question-and-answer session with Christine Jackson about, former theatre director, Joan Littlewood’s work and legacy.
Organiser Carine Osmont, said: “We couldn’t show Wendy’s documentary ‘In The Company of Joan’ because the venue was busier than expected and filled with noisy fun.
“But we are in touch with the eco-cinema in Farnham and hope to arrange a viewing to give the documentary and Wendy the attention they deserve, all in the spirit of Fun Palaces: playing, adapting, learning.”
Past visitors said they were happy to see the workshops were different and they had a chance to experience something new.
“Alexandre (organiser) and I are very pleased to see how the Fun Palace has grown in three years, thanks to the generosity of all the makers and the support of Liz May and Emma Morris from the museum, and the help of the South Street Trust,” added Carine.
“François Matarasso, who visited us on Saturday, has written a beautiful blog about Farnham, the museum and Fun Palaces, [go to] arestlessart.com/2016/10/04/2-a-fun-palace-reimagined-in-farnham/ [to take a read].
“We look forward to build on all the learning done this year and bring new experiences – always more varied, always more inclusive – to the forth Fun Palace on October 7 2017.”
