MARIE Curie’s Farnham fundraising group supported Carers Week by greeting shoppers at Sainsbury’s in Water Lane every day for a week.
Carers’ Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges that carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
Marie Curie volunteers camped out Sainsbury’s Water Lane store between 10am and 6pm from the Monday until the Saturday to share information about the charity and how it can support carers.
Linda Lawrence, chairman of the Farnham fundraising group for Marie Curie, said: “Many carers, sadly, may find themselves looking after loved ones facing a terminal illness.
“Marie Curie nurses are dedicated to helping and supporting these patients and the families and friends who are caring for them, going into their homes and staying all night to offer nursing care, a helping hand or just someone to talk to - whatever they need.
“The charity also has a helpline for carers who often don’t know where to turn when faced with this difficult situation. We are very grateful to Sainsbury’s Water Lane for giving us this opportunity to fundraise while spreading the word about the wonderful work of Marie Curie during Carers’ Week.”
Sainsbury’s in Water Lane has also shortlisted Marie Curie to become its charity of the year for 2016/2017.
Customers are now called upon to vote for their chosen charity in store or online at www.sainsburyslocalcharity.co.uk up until June 26.
