SEVEN fearless fundraisers took to the skies in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.

An early start meant that they beat the windy weather which arrived a little later in the day, and all seven made their jumps before the gusts became strong enough to see the plane grounded.

Phyllis Tuckwell’s skydives are a highly popular event, with many people making the jump in memory of a loved one.

They are also a way to raise money for a vital charity which provides supportive and end-of-life care for patients and families living with a terminal illness, such as cancer, in West Surrey and North East Hampshire.

Saturday alone raised nearly £5,000, taking the money raised by Phyllis Tuckwell’s skydives over the last year to just under £25,000.

“We would like to thank all those who took part in Saturday’s skydive,” said Fiona Chapman, events fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell.

“Victoria Tutcher, Claire Bowell, Glen Gardiner, Zoe Gardiner, Robert Gardiner, Jane Sleight and Debbie McIlroy, you are all amazing.

“The money which you have raised will help us provide medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support for local people who are living with a terminal illness, and your support is greatly appreciated by both us and our patients and families.”

Jane Sleight, one of the skydivers, said: “It was a life-affirming experience. I’m so glad I did it.”

Phyllis Tuckwell will be holding two more skydive days this year, on Sunday, June 4, and Wednesday, September 27. To find out more or to sign up, visit www.pth.org.uk, call 01252 729446 or email [email protected].
