FERNHURST woman Amy Bailey has ‘Braved the Shave’ in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, losing her long brown locks at a charity night held at the Shottermill Club in Haslemere.

Amy’s husband Simon, 33, had Hodgkins Lymphoma last year, while she was pregnant with their second child.

He had surgery and chemotherapy, and is now thankfully in remission. Amy decided to ‘Brave the Shave’, for him, and other cancer patients.

All the money raised from shaving her head is going to Macmillan, and she has donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children with cancer.

Amy and Simon decided to tie her ‘Brave the Shave’ in with the club’s charity night, on September 24, to also raise money for The Fountain Centre, the Royal Surrey County Hospital’s treatment and support facility for chemotherapy patients. £1,060 was raised on the night, and Amy has raised £1,300 online.

Simon said: “We were overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity.

“Entry to the charity night was £5, and there was a raffle, quiz, cake sale, licensed bar, and of course Amy having her head shaved. Lots of local businesses and entrepreneurs kindly donated raffle prizes, and Shottermill Club kindly let us use their event room for free.

“It was an incredibly successful and well -attended event, and every penny raised is now going to improving the lives of people with cancer, and making them feel that bit better during the dark times.”
