ALTON’S Allen Gallery hosted a family fun fete as the last of its Summer Saturday events, raising more than £150 for the gallery and Curtis Museum.

The money will be used to “enhance the museum experience for all its visitors from Alton and further afield”.

The weather made it a mostly indoor event but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the Friends of the Museum as they set up the various stalls – bric-à-brac, books, tombola and more.

The children’s fun activities included a story-teller, a Hunt the Animal game around the gallery garden and a Guess the Name of the Teddy competition (it was Herbie).

Committee member and volunteer Pat Westhall said: “Supporting the museum and gallery is really important. They provide so much for the community – from children’s activities to craft workshops, exhibitions by local artists to historical artefacts, local information to interesting talks – something for everyone, in fact.”

The next Allen Gallery Talk will be at 7.30pm today (Thursday) when artist Tom Yendell will discuss his 30 years of painting for the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists.

Tickets, priced £5, are available from the Allen Gallery in Church Street Alton or by calling 01420 82802.

And an open art exhibition is planned for October. Entry forms can be downloaded from the Allen Gallery section of hampshireculturaltrust.org.uk or picked up at the gallery.
