THE owners of Liphook’s Anchor Garage building on The Square are considering their plans for the premises after the firm operating out of it closed its doors suddenly at the end of October.
Long-time leaseholder Barry Haines sold the business 18 months ago to Darren Faulkner, who then lost the Renault dealership.
He was forced to put the motor company into liquidation.
Terry Barnes, who with his son David owns the landmark premises in the village, told The Herald: “The freehold of the Anchor Garage premises is owned by Liphook Garage Ltd, who traded under that name from 1985 until the first Anchor Garage was leased to Barry Haines, in 2005.
“My son David and I have been operating as Grayswood Cars since 1995, in Haslemere, and we are at present cleaning and re-decorating the premises.
“We are considering displaying some of our Grayswood cars in the showroom and are looking at all options for the future of the site.”
The sudden closure followed hot on the heels of the felling of the 200-year-old horse chestnut tree outside The Anchor pub, the venue for annual Christmas carols service down the years.
In a year of upheaval in the village C J Hampshire moved to Station Road in the summer and Carla’s Boutique closed in late November.
