BORDON’S Age Concern Day Centre at the Chase Hospital was given a helping hand by employees from the firm Taylor Made Financial Planning.
The volunteers from the firm based in Claygate in Surrey, did some gardening on June 8, which included building an arbour, weeding and planting.
Described as “gardening angels”, they also organised a quiz and took cakes for centre members.
Businesses and volunteers across the country supported Volunteers’ Week - an annual celebration of the contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK.
Taylor Made Financial Planning approached Community First about volunteering.
Annette Hender, partner at Taylor Made Financial Planning, said: “We were very excited to be able to offer a day’s volunteering to help Age Concern’s Day Care Centre with its garden.
“We were offered a range of volunteering opportunities and chose the day-care centre for people with dementia in Bordon, which sits nicely between our two offices in Claygate and Thruxton (Hampshire).
“At Taylor Made we are very keen to work with individuals throughout their whole lifecycle and people with dementia need extra support when making financial decisions.”
There were nine volunteers who undertook a range of practical tasks, including erecting an arbor, sanding down and painting garden furniture, and weeding and planting new plants and shrubs.
Jo Bennett, Age Concern manager said: “I have worked at the centre for 22 years and we provide day support for people living with dementia. Our garden was looked after by my husband, and after he died two years ago it has not had much TLC.
“Local councillor Adam Carew gave us £500 from his budget to buy a tree and arbor in my husband’s memory."
Jo added: “I would like to thank Community First for arranging the volunteering day, and Taylor Made are garden angels and we send all our thanks to them.”
