VOLUNTEERS at Farnham Help for Refugees have held their 11th successful aid collection.
Donations of new, handmade and pre-loved items were made, with enough items to fill one large van and three cars.
Most of the donated items were then taken from St George’s Church in Badshot Lea on October 5 to High Wycombe Helping Others, a group which ships aid directly to refugees.
Organisers said the success of the collection was down to all people who raised awareness, donated items or helped sort through aid during the afternoon and evening.
The group took to social media after the collection to thank the “generous people of Farnham who donated some amazing aid”.
The spokesman added: “Well done Farnham, you are amazing!
“Thank you so much to all the people who got involved in yesterday’s collection event. We received mountains of donations and had lots of help in so many ways. Thank you everyone.”
During the collection, one lady brought in hand knitted jumpers for the refugee children on behalf of a local knitting group, while a cub group donated a box of toiletries that they had collected.
Others dropped off new and preloved clothes, shoes, tents and sleeping bags.
Several schools across the area also came together to bring in donations, including a car full of items collected by students at St Thomas Of Canterbury Catholic Primary School in Guildford.
Six young members of the Tilford-based Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association went along to the collection and helped the team pack and organise donations.
The group later commented on Twitter that there had been “plenty of donations from the community”.
Farnham Help for Refugees is a group of Farnham residents who give humanitarian assistance to refugees coming into the UK, travelling across Europe and in camps in the Middle East.
