FARNHAM ASSIST, which supports older people in and around Farnham, has raised more than £1,000 through a charity bikeathon, cake sale and street collection.

“We would like to say a big thank you to Deborah Barrington from Barringtons Solicitors for sponsoring our Farnham ASSIST week, she enjoyed cycling on the bike which was lent to us by Farnham Leisure Centre,” said Susie Blackwood from Farnham ASSIST.

Farnham’s Brasserie Blanc staff Nicolette, Qin, Krish and James were the fastest cyclists at 28 minutes and 13 seconds, with James completing the fastest two miles in just six minutes and 10 seconds.

Many businesses in St George’s Yard came out to show support and donate and buy cakes.

Also supporting the team during the week was the Bethel Baptist Church, which held its usual coffee morning with proceeds in excess of £150 being donated to Farnham ASSIST.

The Vineyard Church opened their doors for an ASSIST coffee and cake morning which raised £86, and the Edinburgh Woollen Mill shop in West Street played host to a fashion show, which attracted a high number of visitors.

Susie added: “We had many visitors to our stall at the Weyside Rotary duck race last month, and Farnham ASSIST volunteers kindly held another cake sale at St Andrews church, which again raised £150.

“We feel very blessed to have the support of so many local people who see the difference the work of Farnham ASSIST makes, and would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved in the week.”
