TO complement all the excitement of the Rio Olympic games, there is a free Haslemere Festival of Sport at Woolmer Hill, on August Bank Holiday.

The theme is ‘Pick up and Play’, and everyone visiting the festival should come in trainers to have a go at the many activities on offer.

Football, hockey, athletics, netball, trampolining, martial arts, badminton, dance, yoga, tennisand bowls are amongst the many sports on offer from clubs based in Haslemere, Bordon, Liphook, Grayshott, Chiddingfold and surrounding villages.

There will be a mass open-air fun fitness session and there will be some sport or activity suitable for any age to trial – children, mums, dads and grandparents.

A carnival atmosphere will be created with music, food, a bar, inflatable slide, classic cars and ice creams.

The venue – Woolmer Hill Sports Centre – next to Woolmer Hill School and entry and all the sports are free – just turn up for a fun afternoon from noon-4pm.

Sport Haslemere chairman Peter Lawrence said: “The festival of sport links in with the National Lottery ‘I am Team GB’ campaign, which thanks National Lottery customers for buying their tickets, so we feel part of the team.

“The wonderful success of our British athletes in Rio is in many cases thanks to their funding by the National Lottery, which also gives considerable sums to grass root facilities.

“We are very fortunate to have wonderful sports facilities available in the local area for us all to use, so why not celebrate and bring the family and perhaps try a new sport or activity. Everyone is welcome.”
