POLICE have issued a ‘Stranger Danger’ warning, after a 12 year-old schoolgirl was molested by a man while walking home last week.
The man, who then spoke to her, was described as white, around 6ft tall, of medium build and aged between 40 and 50. He had short, straight black hair and “smelt of smoke”.
He was wearing dark blue jeans, a lighter blue short sleeved top and old black boots.
Waverley Neighbourhood Inspector Mark Bridge said: “I would urge youngsters to remain alert and safety aware when you are out and about and always report any suspicious incidents immediately to either your parents or guardians, or your school, so they can pass the information to us to take appropriate action.
“If you can, try and get a description of the person or take a photograph and the registration number of any vehicles used.
“We have had no other reports of similar incidents in the area but we are taking this offence extremely seriously and are carrying out inquires to locate this individual. We have stepped up patrols in the area to provide a visible deterrent and officers are available to answer any questions and provide reassurance.”
