OPPONENTS of the decision to introduce parking charges on Surrey streets were given hope after it emerged one district has been made exempt from the meters.

An e-mail sent out by county council deputy leader David Hodge revealed Tandridge would escape the charges, and would instead centre on "communter parking issues only".
