Club members celebrated their 20th golf day on August 25 this year, all of which have been played at Hindhead Golf Club. The purpose of the day has always been to raise funds to support a selected charity of the year. This year it was Challengers, based in St James Avenue.
A record 33 teams enjoyed a fantastic day of golf and fun on what as an exceptionally hot day followed by cooling drinks, an excellent lunch and an auction.
With the support of Wise & Co, which again sponsored this year’s event, and the valued support of many other local companies and individuals £7,704.24 was raised bringing the total over 20 years to £123,647.
Retiring Lions’ golf chairman, Geoff Jeal said: “It was indeed a great pleasure to play our annual event on the wonderful Hindhead Golf Course, so much enjoyed by all our entrants over the year.
“We are indebted to the management, staff and members for the privilege of using their course.
“Farnham Lions have supported Challengers on various projects over the years and were delighted to be able to do so again this year.
“Our golf committee experienced at first hand the wonderful work that they undertake at Farnham and other local centres and were unanimous in their being this year’s beneficiary.”
Challengers chief executive Laura Sercombe said: “The Lions are an absolutely fantastic organisation, Challengers are so lucky and privileged to have their support.
“The amount raised is huge and was put towards funding Challengers new website which went live at the beginning of November. The new website will have a huge impact on the way we work and enable us to support even more families. We cannot thank the Lions enough – they are amazing!”
Next year’s event will take place again at Hindhead Golf Club on Thursday, August 31.
