LOCAL Hospice Care charity Phyllis Tuckwell was recently presented with a cheque for £1,432.62 from The Plume of Feathers Golf Society. The money will go directly to help fund the supportive and end-of-life care which Phyllis Tuckwell offers patients and families who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer, in West Surrey and North East Hampshire.

Formed in 1986 and named after The Plume of Feathers pub in Crondall, where its members often enjoy a meal and a drink or two, the golf society has grown over the years, with members joining from many other golf courses in Hampshire and Surrey.

“We are a mixed society with about 60 members of varying abilities, and new members are always welcome,” said Dave King, captain of The Plume of Feathers Golf Society. “We do have two things in common though - good friendship and, hopefully, good golf!”

“We would like to thank all the members of The Plume of Feathers Golf Society,” said Leanne Magee, community fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care.

“This is an amazing amount of money, which could pay for nearly two weeks of care from one of our occupational therapists, who give advice and provide equipment to help patients maintain their personal independence and quality of life.”

Every day, Phyllis Tuckwell supports over 250 patients, relatives and carers - in their own homes, in the community, at the hospice in Farnham and at the Beacon Centre in Guildford – but as the NHS/Government only covers 20 per cent of its costs, it has to raise over £20,000 a day to be able to do this, and therefore relies heavily on the support and generosity of the local community.
