PUBLIC transport users have finally got something to celebrate after South West Trains announced it was extending its current rail-link bus service and introducing a brand new Sunday service.

The train company has announced that, starting September 29, four extra buses will be laid on to meet trains at the Liphook station from Portsmouth and London, and bus passengers to Bordon through Passfield and Lindford.

Currently the last bus on a week day meets the train from Portsmouth at 8-38 pm and the train from London at 9-23. On a Saturday the last bus meets the last train from Portsmouth at 9-05 pm and from London at 9-21 pm. No buses run on Sundays.

But under the new timetable the late-night service will be extended to accommodate the needs of residents who wish to spend their evenings socialising in Portsmouth, Guildford or London.

From Monday to Saturday an extra four buses will be added to the time table which means that the buses will leave the station at 10-23 pm, 11-26 pm, 11-58 pm and 12-54 am.

The last bus will be able to meet passengers who have caught the 11-24 pm train from London Waterloo and the 11-33 pm train from Portsmouth.

A new hourly Sunday service will also be set up which will also run until the late evening.

A spokeswoman from South West Trains told The Herald ÒWe have had requests for an extended service from a number of people.

ÒThis is one of our most successful services and it is well used and we hope to allow people longer time to spend out in London or other places without having to worry about rushing for the last train.Ó
