THE Brightwells Gostrey Centre will continue to deliver a meals on wheels service following its relocation to the Farnham Memorial Hall next year, Waverley Borough Council has confirmed.

Concerns had been expressed that the kitchen facilities at the Memorial Hall would not be sufficient for the Gostrey Centre to continue preparing and delivering hot meals to the homes of some of Waverley’s most isolated older people, following its move in late 2017.

However, responding to a question by The Herald, a Waverley spokesman confirmed: “Yes, the Memorial Hall will have a kitchen that will allow the Gostrey Centre to continue to provide the service.”

Under the current Royal Voluntary Service scheme, the Gostrey Centre in Dogflud Way has the sole responsibility for delivering meals on wheels across the borough - sometimes having to transport these 20 miles or more.

But from January 16, 2017, a new Waverley Community Meal Service will see the Gostrey Centre share this responsibility with two other day centres - Haslewey in Haslemere and Rowleys in Cranleigh.
